Just a mile away, the renowned Royal North Devon Golf Club is the country’s oldest links course. Founded in 1864, it attracts golfers from far and wide and is often called ‘the St Andrews of the South’. It’s a beautiful course with views across the dunes to the Atlantic. It’s also known for challenging even the most experienced players and appeared in Golf World’s Top 100 Courses in the World that every golfer “must play”. A round here is essential for any golfing holiday in North Devon. The club has a rich heritage with a fascinating museum and a welcoming clubhouse where many of the club’s top competition trophies are displayed. The Royal North Devon Golf Club is just one of many exceptional courses which are easily accessible from our seafront apartments in Westward Ho!. Portmore, Saunton, Libbaton, Hartland Forest, Torrington and Holsworthy are all highly recommended, just a short drive from our self-catering accommodation in Westward Ho!.

Saunton Golf Club

Hidden in the dunes behind a sweeping, sandy beach, Saunton Golf Club is home to a pair of outstanding championship links courses. The East Course was created by Herbert Fowler in the 1920s and has hosted many major amateur championships. The West Course is similar but has its own distinctions and no weak hole. It’s a challenging course that calls for clever placing of your ball off the tee to get at the greens with your approach.

Portmore Golf Park

This popular course is located on the outskirts of Barnstaple, a 20-minute drive from our luxury apartments. There are two courses: the Landkey, a challenging par 27 course with lovely views of the countryside, and Barum, a 6,289-yard, par 71 course designed for players of all levels.

Libbaton Golf Club

This renowned par 72 parkland golf course is surrounded by green, rolling hills near High Bickington, a lovely half-hour drive inland from our seafront apartments in Westward Ho!. It has some of the trickiest greens and finest fairways in Devon, providing an enjoyable and testing game for both low and high handicap players.

Hartland Forest Golf Club

A good course for players of all abilities, surrounded by tranquil farmland and woods, a half-hour drive from Westward Ho!. It’s quite a remote club, so speak to a member of our friendly team before you set off and we’ll make sure you find it.

Torrington Golf Club

Located on heathland outside the market town of Great Torrington, this welcoming club is home to a challenging nine-hole course which is maintained to an excellent standard by its members and always open to visitors.

Holsworthy Golf Club

On the outskirts of the pretty town of Holsworthy, in the heart of Ruby Country, you’ll find this excellent 18-hole course. The club is surrounded by beautiful countryside with spectacular views – you can even make out Dartmoor from the 10th tee.

Once you’ve arrived in Westward Ho! we’ll be delighted to provide you with tips on where to pick up a bucket of spade, get a good cup of coffee or rent surfing equipment. There are a number of excellent surf schools right by the sea if you’re a beginner and need a little guidance to catch your first wave. We’ll also be happy to recommend some of our favourite spots in the area if you fancy exploring the coast. Heading east and west along the coast, you’ll discover secluded, rocky coves such as Bucks Mills, and ancient fishing villages like Clovelly – a must-see on beach holidays on the North Devon coast.
