One of the most magical things about North Devon is how quickly the weather changes. The recent heat wave has meant we have seen some sensational weather for beach lovers.
Being out in the elements – whether the coast is bathed in sun or wild and windswept – is an invigorating experience. Even with detailed forecasts, you never quite know what the weather’s going to do. A waterproof coat is just as important as a pair of sunglasses. Wellies are a good option, too. Not only do they look good whatever the weather, but they’re ideal for exploring the spectacular South West Coast Path, and splashing in the rock pools. Here are a few more of our top tips on how to pack smart for your holiday in North Devon.
Get ready for the beach
Our bespoke cottages and seafront apartments are a stone’s throw from Westward Ho!’s Blue Flag beach. If you’re planning on making the most of this stunning stretch of golden sand, it’s worth taking the time to make sure you’ve got everything you need. Taking a dip in the Atlantic is always tempting, especially when the sun’s shining, so swimwear is a must. The sun can be surprisingly strong during the summer months, so packing sun cream is also a smart move.
Wrap up warm
The temperature in North Devon tends to remain mild, even during the winter months. But it’s worth packing a warm jacket, hat and gloves so you can make the most of the great outdoors – even if it does get a little chilly. After a day of exploring, you’ll be ready to kick back and relax in your cosy cottage and fall asleep to the sound of Atlantic waves.
Prepare for the waves
If you’re planning to enjoy the North Devon coast’s amazing surfing conditions, you might want to pack a board, wetsuit, wax and leash – but don’t worry if you don’t have your own equipment, there are plenty of surf schools and shops which rent in and around Westward Ho! check out the North Devon Surf School.
Our stunning seafront apartments are well-equipped, so there’s no need to bring everything you own. We want you to feel completely at home during your stay, which is why we’ve stocked all our accommodation with board games, buckets and spades, DVDs and plenty more.
